Mirai Nikki is -to me- a very original series.

High school 2nd year, Amano Yukiteru, is a boy who has problem making friends. He thinks of himself as a bystander and will always write down everything he sees in a cell phone diary. Tormented by solitude, Yukiteru began to imagine things like a friend called Deus X Makina who is apparently the Lord of Time & Space. Seeing Yukiteru’s miserable state, Deus gives him a new ability. His diary will now record events that will happen in the near future. Yukiteru is then forced to participate in a game which the winner will become Deus’s successor. (onemanga)

Each player is assigned a number based on the order that Deus modified his or her diary. The diaries now record the future in the same manner their future selves would have written down events that have already happened. The only exception to this rule is when the holder reaches a DEAD END. Each diary varies in properties & functions depending on the holder’s personality, occupation and/or lifestyle. All the diaries have their shortcomings, some moreso than others. And because the diaries are written from the perspective of the holder’s future self, the future can still be misinterpreted and the diary entries can then turn out to be inaccurate. SPOILERS AHEAD.

It’s more to this series than meets the eye. Yukiteru is a character that grows as the manga goes by, and you get to understand his actual fear of being rejected and how lonely he is. You get happy when things go well for him. Because he is bound to attract trouble. I’m sure you’ll be reminded of Shinji from Evangelion, but just because he is insecure, kind and pure, but too afraid sometimes.
As for Yuno, whoa, up until chapter 24 I thought things would go happy end for her and Yuki but it took me by surprised. I even thought Akise was being too nosey.
I really like all the other characters, Akise -who will probably remind you of Kaworu for his pace and sudden kindness to Yuki- is awesome.
I have just read Minene’s story in Mosaic and I think she got a really complete background that justify her terrible actions. I wanted to know why she would become a terrorist quite badly…and there, I got a good plot for her. It’s even logical that she would even let herself die if she becomes god. (Also, I would like a love story with her and Masumi, even if it would be crazy haha.)

I wonder what will happen now that Yuno has exceed her stalker powers. I can imagine Yukki killing her yet…but, as the others, Hinata and Akise are there, I bet he may do something. Or maybe the 8th -whose actual power still remains a mystery-. Then again, Yuno has been a main character and has been the reason Yukki is still alive.
